A wedding in Ravello
Getting married in Ravello is a brilliant, unforgettable choice. The town sits on a cliff 315 metres (about 1,000 feet) above the sea, in the middle of the Amalfi Coast, and from the top you look out over a wonderful panorama of the Mediterranean.
Ravello is one of the pearls of the Amalfi Coast, and it suits couples who are happy to travel a little further for something special. Organising a wedding here is simpler than many people expect: plenty of venues and local companies can advise you on how best to arrange your day.
Villa Cimbrone wedding
Villa Cimbrone is one of the most beautiful villas on the entire Amalfi Coast. Its famous Belvedere, a terrace hanging over the sea, is a must for anyone planning to marry in Ravello. Like Villa Cimbrone, Villa Rufolo has fabulous gardens. Every year they host the famous Ravello Festival in their enchanting setting. Many of the weddings celebrated on the Amalfi Coast take place in Ravello.
The Cathedral and the main square

Photographing a Ravello wedding
Ravello rewards a relaxed pace. Its historic centre is perfect for photographs, and a stroll through its lanes at sunset adds a touch of magic for any newlyweds – I love photographing couples walking together through its back streets.
As always, I photograph the day as it unfolds: the groom waiting for the bride to arrive, the ceremony, the first moments as a married couple, the dinner and the party. Before the wedding we plan the timeline and the list of family groups together, and if your venue is new to me I visit it beforehand to see where the light falls at the time of your ceremony and portraits.
Villa Eva is a good example of how varied a Ravello wedding can be. There I have photographed the bride on the villa’s balcony, the wedding banquet and a wedding party that filled the evening with dancing.

Getting to Ravello

Planning your Ravello wedding day
A few things I suggest thinking about early, so the day flows and the photographs have room to breathe:
- Choose your ceremony and reception venues together – a villa garden and a hotel terrace can be a beautiful pair
- Leave time before sunset for a short stroll through the historic centre
- Send me your list of family groups in advance, so they take minutes rather than an hour
- If you arrive a few days early, consider a relaxed pre-wedding shoot elsewhere on the Amalfi Coast
